New Challanger fields under construction

Since last September the New Challanger fields have been under construction, 4 new fields for Minor and Rookie leagues, and a Miracle field for handicapped player leagues. Very exciting, and ready for play in spring of 2009!

New League Rules

We have changed a few rules and the way we run the games to improve your child’s experience.

A few highlights:
In the Rookie League, during games an umpire will run the pitching machine, meaning the strikes will be consistent for both teams and your child will have the opportunity to complete more innings because the games will move more quickly. This was tested in last year’s playoffs and was a huge success.
In the Minor League, we have replaced “coach-pitch” with “umpire-pitch”. If a pitcher has thrown 4 balls to the batter, the umpire takes the mound and will pitch to the batter. A batter will get 2 strikes from the umpire if the count was 0 or 1 strikes, otherwise the batter will get 1 strike. Again, this is to increase the speed of the game, because more innings will be able to be played in the time allowed. It will also eliminate the “lollipop” pitch from the coach and encourage the players to swing at the balls pitched by the player-pitcher instead of waiting for the coach to give them a “meatball”. This will better prepare them for future Majors seasons. We have increased the minimum playing time from a minimun of 3 innings for every player to at least 4 innings in the field for the first 5 games.
In the Major League, we have increased the minimum playing time for all kids. For the first 5 games, we will bat the whole roster, not just the players on the field, and every player will play at least 4 innings in the field. After the first 5 games, 3 innings and 1 at-bat per game is the minimum.
We’ve made other changes as well and we encourage you to brows this website and print the local rulebook to familiarize yourself with all of our local rules. Also at this website you will find information on all of the leagues, key dates, game scheduels, printabel forms, and much more. Check it out !
